Peter Chapman is a Chartered Civil Engineer and Barrister. He
has 30 years experience in the construction industry, the
last fifteen of which he has specialised in dispute resolution
in its various forms. He has worked in 20 countries and
represented owner organisations, consultants and contractors. He
has served on fourteen dispute (adjudication) boards (five
appointments as chairman) and has given upward of
100 decisions as adjudicator. His technical experience
includes tunnels, dams, power plants, railways, roads,
hospitals, airports, buildings and bridges. He is particularly
conversant with multi-discipline projects (e.g. power projects,
railway projects). As Contracts Manager for the Singapore Mass
Rapid Transit Railway Corporation, he was responsible for the
resolution of over 2000 construction claims covering delay,
disruption, adverse conditions, contract interpretation,
measurement, valuation and final accounts.
He is a chartered arbitrator and has undertaken approximately
50 arbitration references (including chairing ICC
Tribunals). He also acts as mediator/conciliator in construction
disputes.
He is currently the chairman of the ICE Advisory Panel on
Legal Affairs (2000-2003), a member of Council for the Chartered
Institute of Arbitrators, Main Board member of the Dispute
Review Board Foundation (USA) and founder of the Adjudication
Society. He is a recipient of the ICE Webb Prize for Civil
Engineering and a regular lecturer for FIDIC, ICE and the Major
Projects Association.
Author of Construction Adjudication (with Robert Stevenson)
and numerous papers on dispute resolution and dispute
(adjudication) boards.
